Pokemon Team Challenge Tournaments!

AwesomeSomething is participating in a world wide Pokemon TCGO Event! Interested? Keep Reading!

With in-store events on temporary suspension, The Pokémon Company International is looking for new ways to support their Play! Pokémon stores and Pokémon Trading Card Game community. Their generous solution to the in store suspension problem is the Play! Pokémon Team Challenge!

The Play! Pokémon Team Challenge will be run on the Pokémon Trading Card Game Online platform, but deliver the feeling of an in-store tournament whilst maintaining safe, social distancing in line with recommendations from the World Health Organization and local, regional, and national health authorities worldwide.

Stores from around the world who are members of the Play! Pokémon Program will be participating in this event! Each eligible Store will run 4 Qualifiers, creating a team where the 4 winners from their local community will go on to represent their Store in the Play-Offs to crown the Best Team in the Play! Pokémon Team Challenge.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there an entry fee?

  • No, these tournaments are all absolutely FREE to participate in!

Will there be prizes for participating?

  • YES! Pokemon is providing participation codes for our Team Qualifier tournaments AND store playoffs. The winners of each Qualifier will also receive a special playmat! If we make it to the top 256 or top 32 of the Store Playoffs, each team member will ALSO receive an additional EXCLUSIVE playmat!

  • We are also partnering up with fellow AwesomeSomebody & Pokemon Twitch Streamer Ryan Linman! He has kindly offered to donate codes for tournament prizes. He will also be streaming his participation in the first event. You can find his Twitch channel here.

Can anyone play?

  • Unfortunately, due to the nature of online play, Pokemon has decided to only allow Masters Division players to participate in this event. We plan to hold tournaments of our own someday to include all ages, but these tournaments are for ages 18 and up.

Are there any other requirements for joining?

  • You will need a valid Player ID. Click here to go to the Play!Pokemon website to acquire one. If you don't know how to get one, watch this video from Professor Monty and feel free to contact us with any questions!

What format are the tournaments?

  • All of the tournaments are Standard format

Can I sign up for more then one tournament?

  • Yes, you can register for all of the AwesomeSomething Team Challenges if you want but once you've won one you cannot participate in the others.

  • To clarify: Each "Team" (AwesomeSomething in this case) has 4 qualifier tournaments. The winner of each tourney goes on to represent the Team in the Store Playoffs, where we play against other teams. So in theory if you win the first one you can't play in the next 3, but you'll be playing in the Store Playoffs.

  • You CANNOT play for more then one team, so please do not register for another team if you want to play in our tournaments!

Are Deck Lists Required? Where do we post them?

  • Yes, deck lists are required. Players will post them on the RK9 website. Go to your player dashboard, then click the tournament you are playing in, and you can upload a deck list from there!

Where do we find the pairings (matchups)?

  • The pairings will also be available through the RK9website

What do we do if we have questions during the event?

  • We will be using Discord for this event. Our Tournament Organizer will answer any questions you have during the tournament there. Click here to join. Be sure to introduce yourself so we can assign you to the Pokemon role.

Will you be streaming the event?

  • We probably won't be playing in the tournaments. We may stream as a spectator on our channel, but will be encouraging participants to stream on their own channels. Please reach out if you are interested and we will be sure to promote you!
